What does it take to be the next Justin Bieber? As the world’s search goes on for the next teen hunk or next YouTube music sensation, hunky Cody Simpson or sexy Maria Zouroudis are in the running for the title of “The Next Justin Bieber”.
Why “The Next Justin Bieber”?
As an international success, Justin Bieber never expected to be famous. The young pre-teen spent hours in front of the camera and on stage at local singing competitions in Ontario. While his mother Pattie Mallette posted the videos on his YouTube channel, former So So Def marketing executive Scooter Braun accidentally clicked on one of Bieber’s videos. From there, his videos became the most watched YouTube videos of all-time and Bieber’s success was set to be replicated.
Cody Simpson: A Justin Bieber Replica
At 13-years-old, Cody Simpson began to record songs on YouTube from his bedroom in Australia last summer. Covering pop favorites like Jason Mraz’s “I’m Yours” and tracks by Justin Timberlake, Simpson also included original works of art titled “One” and “Perfect”. In less than six months, Simpson was discovered by Grammy-nominated record producer Shawn Campbell – The producer behind Jay-Z.
He even looks like the Biebs. Sporting blonde locks and a potential, signature haircut, his young vocals ring out in familiar Bieber style. The young gun has also collaborated with hit, hip-hop singers much like Justin Bieber has mixed with Ludacris and Usher.
Last month, the blonde, shaggy-haired teenager released his debut single “iYiYi” with rapper Flo Rida. Three short weeks after its debut, the song reached #25 on the Australian ARIA Singles Chart. Now residing in Los Angeles, Simpson is taking on his first music tour and recording songs with Atlantic Records.
Maria Zouroudis: A New YouTube Breed for Bieber Fans
For those who are interested in YouTube music videos gone viral, Maria Zouroudis has a story that Justin Bieber and Cody Simpson would relate to. Using what she calls “internet marketing”, the Greek-American songstress filmed videos in her bedroom and worked up a YouTube channel that boasts over 5 million views and 12,000 subscribers.
Unlike Bieber and Simpson, Zouroudis may be a bit older but utilizing YouTube has still assisted her to international exposure. The singer is known for rocking vocals full of “pop, R&B and acoustic soul”. Maria takes on covers like Ke$ha’s “Tik Tok” acoustically and Alicia Keys’ “Empire State of Mind” but she also has her own originals.
Maria was later featured as a part of the vocals in the YouTube edition of “We Are the World,” which received 1.7 million views within the first 30 days of publish and garnered national TV coverage on major news networks.
The Next “American Idol” Mission? Find The Next Justin Bieber
Talent abounds and while these two may have been found, popular FOX TV show is setting out to find their own version of the next Justin Bieber. The show, in its 10th season, is lowering the entry age to 15 in an effort to find young talent.
“I think different people will show up this time,” ‘American Idol’ judge Randy Jackson said. “You’re seeing stars like Justin Bieber, a lot of younger artists do it, you know? So you want to take advantage of that … there’s a lot of kids that are getting better earlier. It’s great.”
Is Cody Simpson the next big teen star? It may still be too early to tell, but we know for sure that he already has plenty of connections. With over 60,000 followers on Twitter, the 13-year old singer is on his way.
In a new interview with J-14, Simpson dished on a variety of topics relating to young Hollywood.
On meeting Justin Bieber
“His [‘Somebody to Love’] video looks incredible. He’s a nice kid, and it was great to meet him… [Justin and I] didn’t get to talk that much because he was really busy on the set.”
On girls he would be interested in dating
“There are so many hot girls in Hollywood, it’s hard to choose! Miley Cyrus and Selena Gomez—I like them both. ”
So will Cody ultimately become the next Justin Bieber? He still certainly has a ways to go.
